KECE 463 - VLSI Design and Experiment

This course covers semi-custom design methodology widely used in modern digital integrated circuits along with hands on experience of industry standard EDA tools. Students will learn various hardware architectures, implement in Verilog HDL, synthesize to hardware, and analyze various characteristics of the synthesized circuits. The key concepts covered in this class are listed below.

  • Semi-custom design flow

KECE 496 - Digital Integrated Circuits

This course covers current digital VLSI design flow on various levels of abstraction, which ranges from device, circuit, gate, module, and to system, in bottom-up approach. The students will also have hands on experience of VLSI design based on industry standard EDA tools for both full-custom and semi-custom design flow. The key concepts covered in this class are listed below.

  • CMOS devices
  • Circuit robustness, performance, power
  • Logic families (complementary, ratioed, pass transistor, dynamic) and digital gates
  • Memories (SRAM, DRAM)
  • Full-custom design flow (transistor level design, SPICE, layout drawing)
  • Semi-custom design flow (HDL, logic synthesis, place and route)
  • Trends of todays semiconductor industry
